Not just Lord Buddha was enlightened under the “Bo Tree”. Every Kurumabsiddyan was enlightened under “Arasa Maram”, the sacred tree, at the age of 4 when they walked to Pon Paramananthar Vidyalayam or at the age of 11 when they walked to Vayavilan Mathiya Maha Vidyalayam or at the age of 19 when they walked to “Puthu Road” to get the bus (764) to go to University of Jaffna.  It was the place for the children to play hide and seek. It was the place for hard working people to relax and enjoy the nice breeze. It was the meeting place for retirees to have chit chat. It was the giant umbrella for the school children when raining. It was the tree gave extra work for the neighbouring house wives in the fall season; raking their yard with piles of leaves.

Leaf…  Every young kurumbassidyan kept a leaf from this sacred tree in their book. It was token luck. It was exchanged with friends as a token of friendship. Young lovers used this as token of Love!As this is the King of Tree, it is guarded by Lord Kaali and Lord Vairavar. Hope it is still standing straight and strong after all the massive destruction; waiting to enjoy the Kurumbasiddyan’s breath; children’s foot step; listen to Kovil bell and priest’s chanting. We all are waiting to enjoy the autumn breeze from “Our Arasa Maram”!!

Thanks
